BCJ's latest album is J.S. Bach's Lutheran Mass with many quotations from his previous cantatas! The latest album from the Bach Collegium Japan is the first of seven Lutheran masses. The Mass in G minor, BWV 235, is based on the main part of BWV 187 and one piece each from BWV 72 and BWV 102, while the Mass in G major, BWV 236, is a compilation of movements from BWV 17, 79, 138, and 179. These works are all beautiful, compact, and condensed, and are based on quotations from Bach's previous cantatas, although they are small in size.
