The long-awaited new album by the queen of flute, Sharon Beatherly, features the masterpieces of flute concertos by Nielsen and Reinecke, the orchestral accompaniment version of Poulenc's Flute Sonata, and Rimsky=Korsakov's Flight of the Bears. The concert is like a one-night concert full of flutes. Nielsen's Flute Concerto is Carl Nielsen's second concerto in two movements, dating from 1926 (revised in 1927). More of a chamber piece than a concerto, it is characterized by the fact that the flute and trumpet do not participate in the orchestra, and the flute creates an exquisite ensemble with the orchestra. Reinecke has been reevaluated in recent years and performed by many world-class flutists.The latter half of Poulenc's work, originally a sonata, is recorded here in an orchestral accompaniment version. The arrangement suits Poulenc's world view, which cannot be expressed by piano alone. The flight of the bees at the end seems as if they are flying around at an incredible speed.
