Description:
The 50th anniversary of the orchestra's foundation in 1986 Christmas Live: Haydn's "The Creation" by Maestro Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra *The year 1986 was a milestone year for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Half a century earlier, in 1936, many Jewish musicians gathered at the urging of the famous violinist Huberman to give the orchestra's inaugural concert in Tel Aviv, also conducted by Toscanini, on December 26, 1936. Haydn's "The Creation" is a live recording of the concert that Mehta, who was born in 1936 and turned 50 years old like the orchestra, conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra on Christmas Day, December 25, 1986, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.Haydn's oratorio "The Creation," considered to be his masterpiece, is composed of three parts that follow the seven days of creation in chronological order, from the first to the fourth day of creation by God, to the fifth and sixth days when creatures appear, to the appearance of Adam and Eve, using "Genesis" and "Psalms" from the Old Testament, considered important scriptures in the Jewish faith, and Milton's "Paradise Lost" as the textual subject matter. The seven days of Genesis are depicted in three parts, following a chronological order. The content is colored with a worldview that is straightforwardly common to both Judaism and Christianity, the animals are depicted in an easy-to-understand manner with a skillful pictorial technique, and a large chorus is mobilized to make the work more appealing to listeners. It is often featured in the Christmas season. The choice of "The Creation" for the program, along with the timing of the concert, must have been based on the judgment that it would be a fitting conclusion to the special 50th anniversary year of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The soloists were Hendricks, Merritt, and Van Damme, all international stars, and the chorus was the Orchestre Philharmonique de Paris, which celebrated its 10th anniversary since its founding in 1976, adding to the splendor of the event. Known for his skill in Wagner's and Verdi's operas, Mehta is also known for his dramatic and exciting music in large-scale vocal works, as can be seen in the "German Requiem," recorded live with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009. The "German Requiem" recorded live with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, for example.Incidentally, speaking of Haydn by Mehta, he also covered Symphonies No. 103, 104, and 12 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in demonstrations, recorded Symphony No. 22 live, and left a video work of "Mass in Time of War" with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra in 1998 when he became music director.
