Description:
Requiem dedicated to a great Israeli statesman, performed at the world premiere Lament for Yitzhak Rabin, an important Israeli statesman. It was performed live at the opening concert of the 50th anniversary of Israel's national independence (with video/NTSC system). The work was later taken up by Mazur, Mazer, and others. In the words of composer Dov Seltzer: "The text and music of this requiem, which deals with the fate and tragic death of Yitzhak Rabin, is a hymn to peace and mutual understanding among people, and a powerful protest against violence and war. It is a large-scale work written for full orchestra and voices (mixed chorus, children's chorus, and soloists). Lamentations is a secular work, not a religious service, although some of the text here is taken from Hebrew prayers. Other texts include biblical and medieval Hebrew poetry, as well as texts by Israeli poets living today.It includes text written by a 12-year-old girl about peace. All lyrics are sung in Hebrew."
