This album features Norwegian pianist Nils Anders Mottenson, who has recorded many albums for LAWO Classics, and the Engegård Quartet, led by Arvid Engegård, who performed with him on Schumann's Violin Sonatas (LWC1110). The quartet performs two pieces for piano and strings written in 1842, when Robert Schumann composed quite a few chamber pieces. The inspiring "Piano Quintet" begins with a decisive melody and a movement of the most tender and romantic melody. The "Piano Quartet" has a third movement of "Andante cantabile," one of the most beautiful melodies Schumann ever wrote. Both pieces, written in E-flat major, express Schumann's deep musical feelings and are regarded as "cornerstones" of chamber music of the Romanticism era.
