South American organic techno standard-bearer El Vuo's '23 new release on WONDERWHEEL! Strata" was born out of an attempt to combat the tension of experiencing happiness, joy, and gratitude through sharing everyday life and music with loved ones as the world crumbles. The result is an album that is like a running romp through his own life, a to-and-fro between El Buo's personal joys and the anguish of the modern world. Musically, El Buo's world of hypnotic cumbia and ritualistic folklore, as heard in "Brujeria," featuring Bomba Estereo, is of course still alive and well, with a pleasant, danceable downtempo feel. On the other hand, "Pianuco," for example, skillfully mixes wino melodies with ama piano rhythms and bass, while the last track, "Ley de Origen," features the marimba sounds heard in the music of Colombia's Pacific side, and the collaborator's The last song "Ley de Origen" features the marimba sound heard in the music of the Pacific side of Colombia.
