It's always been true that everyone is experiencing something that they may not be aware of. This is especially true now. But at the same time, we are all experiencing something together. In such a situation, what is the value of art, and where can happiness be found?" McCaughan says. In its search for answers, "Songs in the Key of Yikes" explodes with a sound that triumphs and shines in the dark, like "Majesty Shredding" in overdrive. This is Superchunk's signature album. Intuitive, timeless, and supremely catchy, it is a cathartic catharsis to accompany these oppressive times. And it's even better when it confronts the issues we all face together.
In addition to the new addition of King, touring drummer for two years, the album features Rosali Middleman, Bella Quinlan and Holly Thomas of Quivers, and touring bassist Betsy Wright. Engineering was done by Paul Voran (The Menzingers, Hurray for the Riff Raff) and Eli Webb, and mixed by Mike Montgomery (The Breeders, Protomartyr).
