The fifth album by the shoegaze giants is a work that continues the classic band's unmistakable voice into the future, containing the duality of a familiar internal language and the exuberance of a new beginning. Here, its immersive, elemental sound is explored by Rachel Goswell (vo/g), Neil Halstead (vo/g), Christian Savill (g), Nick Chaplin (b), and Simon Scott (dr). 2023. Slowdive has a familial energy that stems from their deep history. Everything is alive is dedicated to Goswell's mother and Scott's father, who passed away in 2020. 'There has been a deep personal conversion for some of us.That crossroads is reflected in the multi-layered emotional tenor of Slowdive's music. Although "everything is alive" is heavy with experience, each note is calm, wise, and inevitably hopeful. Its unique alchemy subtly embodies both sadness and gratitude, groundedness and elation," says Goswell. The album began with writer/producer Halstead making demos at home. Halstead, who had been experimenting with modular synths, initially envisioned "everything is alive" as a "minimal electronic record. Ultimately, the band's collective decision to return to their signature reverb-drenched guitars permeated their initial conception of the composition. We always come from slightly different directions." And the best is where we all meet in the middle," Halstead says, adding, "When the five of us get together in a room, something immense happens," Goswell adds.The multi-year recording process began in the fall of 2020 at Courtyard, their old studio, and moved to the Wolds in Oxfordshire and Lincolnshire. In early 2022, six of the eight songs were mixed with Shawn Everett (The War On Drugs, Alvays, SZA).
