Stokowski's repertoire is a formidable feat, ranging from liturgical songs to Japanese compositions, and includes a wealth of rare recordings from the 1920s to 1940! Leopold Stokowski became the Permanent Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1912, and he thoroughly trained the ensemble until his retirement in 1940, which marked the golden age of the orchestra. Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra recorded many LPs. Among the vast amount of recordings made by Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra, there remain some valuable works that had never been recorded before. The Philadelphia Rarities" is a collection of these works on one disc! This is a wonderful demonstration of Stokowski's skill in recording a series of works that were composed in completely different periods and musical styles. Tokyo M-Plus
