Peter Donohoe's 4th release! Tchaikovsky's piano works including the "Grand Sonata"! Peter Donohoe is a renowned British pianist who has been invited by Simon Rattle as a soloist for his inaugural concert as Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, and has performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions. A percussionist in his youth, Donohoe studied piano under Yvonne Loriot and Olivier Messiaen in Paris, and won a prize at the 1981 Leeds International Competition and the highest prize at the 1982 Tchaikovsky International Competition. He started with two Shostakovich albums, "24 Preludes and Fugues, Op.87" (SIGCD 396) and "Piano Concertos No.1 & 2 and Piano Sonatas No.1 & 2" (SIGCD 493), and his last album (SIGCD 566) combined Mussorgsky with Ravel and Messiaen's works.
