Sugar Hill Records was the world's first Hip Hop label that established the Hip Hop/Street Music scene. One of the label's leading artists and one of the most important DJs of the old school, along with Africa Bambaata and Kool Herc, is Grandmaster Flash, who has been active as a DJ since the late 1970s. Flash and the Furious Five. In October 1982, he released his debut album "THE MESSAGE" on Sugar Hill Records.The album, which reached #53 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums Chart and #8 on the Top Black Albums Chart, also entered the U.K. Albums Chart and was highly acclaimed as a work that defined the hip-hop sound of the era. The title track, "The Message," was one of the first rap songs with a social message, depicting the social problems faced by the urban poor, and was named NM's "Track of the Year" in 1982 and Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. It was named NM's "Track of the Year" in 1982 and #51 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. In 2002, the song was listed in the National Recording Data Registry of the Library of Congress, the first hip-hop recording to be so listed. In this year of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, this historic masterpiece of old-school hip-hop is being revived on analog LP!
