This is the ECM debut album by the pianist who is considered a leading figure in the New York jazz scene. His 2009 work 'Historicity' was nominated for a Grammy Award and selected as the "Best Jazz Album" of the year by DownBeat magazine, The New York Times, and others. This new work from Vijay, a powerhouse artist now mentioned alongside Robert Glasper in the New York jazz scene who has built a new jazz trend incorporating elements from India and the Middle East, features the luxurious combination of piano and string quartet. Centered around the suite "Mutations 1-10," which layers piano, string quartet, and electronic instruments, the album also includes one solo piano piece and two tracks featuring solo piano with electronic instruments.
