Legendary producer Creed Taylor founded Impulse 50 years ago. This 4-CD set features the six albums he produced for Impulse under Creed Taylor's super-viz, plus previously unreleased John Coltrane rehearsal material. 84-page hardcover book includes essays by Creed Taylor and Ashley Kahn (author of Impulse!, The House That Trane Built), rare photos from the sessions, and original LP artwork. All tracks were produced by Creed Taylor and recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at Van Gelder Studios (except M8-10 on CD4).The albums included are John Coltrane's Africa/Brass, Gil Evans' Out Of The Cool with Ron Carter and Elvin Jones in the rhythm section, Oliver Nelson's classic Blues And The Abstract Truth", and Oliver Nelson's masterpiece "Blues And The Abstract Truth", which was released under the slogan "The New Wave of Jazz Started With Impulse! The Great Kai & J.J." by Kai Winding & J.J. Johnson, the first Impulse album with the slogan "The New Wave of Jazz Started with Impulse", Ray Charles' classic "Genius + Soul = Jazz", and Kai Winding's "The Incredible Kai DISC 4 includes rehearsal recordings from Coltrane's Africa/Brass.
