This album represents the pinnacle of Miroslav Vitous’s musical career, showcasing his exceptional skills as a bassist across various ensemble configurations, featuring such luminaries as the renowned French clarinetist Michel Portal and the late American drummer Jack DeJohnette.
Convincingly synthesizing the multiple trends and currents found in Vitous’s work, this album demonstrates his multifaceted talents as a dynamic improviser, jazz composer, arranger, and pioneer of creative sampling. Vitous, the extraordinarily talented Czech bassist and founding member of Weather Report, first appeared on ECM in the late 1970s, performing in a trio with Terje Rypdal and Jack DeJohnette. Recorded over the course of seven years (2003–2010) during multiple sessions at Vitous’s studio in Prague. The album was produced by Miroslav Vitous and Manfred Eicher.
