Recorded in late 1954 and early 1955, this album is their finest work, described as "the most definitive bop group of its era" until Clifford Brown's death in an automobile accident in 1956. On Clifford Brown & Max Roach, the second of four albums that Brown and Max Roach co-produced, Harold Land (tenor saxophone) joined the group, and Richie Powell (piano) and George Morrow (bass) formed the Roach-led rhythm The rhythm section was solidified with Roach on bass. Brown's compositions "The Blues Walk," "Joy Spring," and "Daahoud" are noted as hard bop masterpieces, while Bud Powell's "Parisian Thoroughfare" and Duke Jordan's "Jordu" also deserve special mention.
