Karl Jenkins, born in 1944, is a composer, conductor, and musician from Wales, U.K. His latest album "Stravaganza" will be released immediately after his sold-out 80th anniversary concert tour.The album features two world premiere recordings by Jenkins and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: Palladio Reimagined, an entirely new and spectacular arrangement of one of Jenkins' most popular works, Palladio. It is bigger, more dramatic, more exciting, and more colorful than its predecessor, with various instruments exchanging phrases in a musical "Q&A" session" (Carl Jenkins). The original "Palladio" was completed in 1995 and takes its title from the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The first movement, "Allegretto," remains the most popular song on Jenkins' streaming. The other piece on the album is "Stravaganza," a saxophone concerto written for one of the hottest young performers in the UK today, star saxophonist Jess Gillam, and performed by Jess herself.Commissioned by "BBC Radio 3" and the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, the work explores carnival and spectacular fantasy themes inspired by Jess's experiences studying with a local carnival band. Jess gave the world premiere at the Philharmonie in Berlin in June 2023 and the UK premiere in Swansea in February 2024. Saxophonist Jess Gillam plays on shimmering matte gold tubing.
