The 1998 release of Abbey Lincoln, one of the greats in composition as well as jazz singer, is now available on vinyl for the first time! At the time of this recording, she was 65 years old, making a fierce musical statement and adhering to her own unique manner of conveying lyrics, while most of this album also emphasizes slow tempos and melancholy moods. Seven of the nine ballads, including the nostalgic "Who Used to Dance" (with an impressive tap dance by Savion Glover), "Street of Dreams," and the very charming "Mr. Tambourine Man," showcase the grainy quality of Lincoln's voice and The album is a great showcase for Lincoln's voice. Alto saxophonists Frank Morgan, Steve Coleman, Oliver Lake, Justin Robinson, and Riley Bundy III provide feature work and insightful solos, while pianist Mark Currie, bassist Michael Bowie, and drummer The rhythm team of Aaron Walker provides the best ballad accompaniment, on 140g vinyl in single sleeve.
