Description:
Fabio Biondi & Europa Galante - "The Countess" by Monieuxco! Opera project by Biondi & Europa Galante! The third opera by Monieuszko, the "Father of Polish Opera", is "The Countess"! Fabio Biondi & Europa Galante's opera recording project, released on the independent label of the Polish National Chopin Institute (NIFC). Following "Halka" (NIFCCD082083), "Raft Rider" (NIFCCD086), and Verdi's "Pirate" (NIFCCD087088) by Polish National Music School composer Stanislaw Moneuszko (1819-1872), the fourth release returns to Moneuszko again with "Count The Count and Countess" (NIFCCD087088). The Countess, which Moneuszko himself wrote to his publishers shortly after its premiere that it was an "unprecedented success," was the second Warsaw opera to be staged at the Warsaw Grand Theater, following The Raft Rider in 1860. It is also the only opera in which Moneuszko used Warsaw as a subject. In fact, it is the most interesting, sensitive, and colorful of Monieuszko's works, and deserves special attention. The Countess is a gallery of characteristic characters, full of situational humor, brilliant duets, and charming arias. Monieuszko's opera shows that he was not only a fine composer but also an excellent observer, particularly sensitive to social issues. It tells us clearly that while Warsaw was a metropolis of material and cultural wealth, it was also a haven for vanity, careerism, foreign fads, and, put plainly, stupidity. Tokyo M-Plus
