A collection of exquisite madrigals by Italian composer Luca Marenzio! Luca Marenzio, an Italian Renaissance composer and singer, composed approximately 500 madrigals during his short life. He set a wide range of poems, from lighthearted to serious. His expression and technique advanced significantly over the twenty years from 1580 to 1599, and his late works, considered his pinnacle, are said to have influenced later madrigals. Musica Ficta and Bo Holten present a collection of Malenzio's works. Featuring "Baci soavi (Sweet, Beloved Kisses)" set to Giovanni Battista Guarini's poem "Various Kisses," and "Capitolo (Chapter)" set to Luigi Tansillo's text, considered Malenzio's masterpiece. This program features these two ambitious madrigal collections alongside popular contemporary pieces such as "Cruel and Cold Death" and "The Beautiful Song of Clori." Musica Ficta is a vocal ensemble founded in Copenhagen in 1996 by composer and conductor Bo Horten (1948-).The ensemble has gained popularity and acclaim through concerts and recordings, blending the early music traditions of Oxford and Cambridge Universities with the warm choral sound of Scandinavia. This is their second collection of madrigals, following the live recording of 'Gesualdo's Madrigals' (DACOCD 760) (2015), recorded during a concert in Bari, Italy. Tokyo M Plus
