Description:
Danish Romantic Vikt Bendix's piano works Vikt Emanuel Bendix was born in 1851 in Copenhagen to a middle-class family and studied at the conservatory of Göse. He is said to have been a born romantic who believed that "the chief aim of music is to make people forget, for a time, their barbarism and shameful daily life." His works include four symphonies (DACOCD 436-437), a piano concerto (DACOCD 641), chamber music, piano music, and vocal music, Known as a composer of over 100 works in a wide range of genres, a virtuoso pianist and chamber musician who studied with Liszt, and a conductor of works including "Symphonic Rhapsody" by his student Carl Nilsen, he is regarded as a musician with an active personality and human charm who led an era in Denmark. He is regarded as a musician of positive character and human charm who led an era in Denmark. His son, Vikt Schuller, has gone on to become one of Denmark's leading pianists of the 20th century, and the album released by Danacord Records includes all of Bendix's published works for solo piano, which are known for their strong critical spirit. The "Five Piano Pieces" (Op. 1), in the tradition of the "Character Pieces"; the joyful "In a Smaller Style"; the "Mood Drawing" featuring the third piece, "Bacchus Procession," which is directed to be "as fast as possible"; and the "Album" written in a style widely accepted by audiences. The "Piano Sonata in G minor" is a work in four movements, including a "Humorous Interlude" and "Allegro and Variations," with a playing time of nearly 40 minutes, composed during his stormy personal life. The "Five Piano Pieces" (Op. 33), composed between 1880 and 1909, was published with the addition of "Waltz" (Op. 11 no. 2) to the four pieces he composed between 1880 and 1909. Pianist Isabelle Kahlander studied at the Danish National Academy of Music and Drama (West Jylland Conservatory) and the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Tove Lenskow and Mirta Herrera in Rome, making her debut as a soloist in 1995; in 2010, she received a B.A. in Law from the University of Copenhagen and a lawyer, as well as performing songs together and promoting Bendix's piano music.
