Description:
Lotto & Les Siecle perform "Carnival of the Animals" for the first time on period instruments! An amazing world of never-before-heard sounds that are super fresh! The fast-rising Lhoto and Les Siecle have realized a period instrument performance of Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals". The two-disc set includes all four symphonic poems on period instruments. The solo violin in the famous "Dance of Death" is non-vibrato, and the sound of the orchestra shows that this music is not actually frightening. Saint-Saëns was originally a man who focused on the revival of old music and old instruments, and Lhote himself has said that he was "one of the founders of Les Siecle. The Bacchanale from the opera "Samson and Delilah" also dispels the exotic and stuffy image, and the colors are like pastel paintings, which is what Saint-Saëns had in mind. Most interesting is the second piece, "Carnival of the Animals. The sound, which I had never heard before, is astonishing. The piece uses two pianos, and it is noteworthy that a 1928 Pleyel double piano is used here. The sound is beautiful and even, creating a world that could not be created by two separate pianos. Jean Sguitani and Michael Erzscheid play the technical "Donkey" with dash and then make a deliberate mistake in the "Pianist," which is a laugh riot. The non-vibrato technique makes "Rooster and Hens" and "Long-Eared Characters" sound exactly like animal noises. The double bass in "Elephants" has a stylish, not heavy sound, the wooden harmonica in "Aquarium," and the xylophone in "Fossils" sound very new even though they are old instruments. The great thing about Lotto is that it does not end with mere historical research. No one can duplicate his sense of rhythm and the fast, energetic movements essential to Saint-Saëns, not to mention the humor that would delight even children. The Assassination of the Duke of Guise," which was the first film music in history, also shines with the sensibility of Lotto, who was trained through his work with the LSO and soundtrack!
