Description:
Schütz, the great German master before Bach: listening to his influences and results from Italian music Heinrich Schütz was one of the leading German masters of pre-Bach music, with over 500 extant compositions. As a young man, he visited Venice twice and met Gabrieli and Monteverdi, absorbing Italian music. He brought his music to Germany, where he worked mainly in the field of church music and advanced history from the Renaissance to the Baroque. This album alternates between the brilliant and technical Italian music and Schütz's music. It is interesting to hear both Schütz's influences and his own acquisition of language.
