This is a collection of preliminary (UK Regional Championships) assignments for each division of the 2024 Besson UK National Brass Band Contest. The featured championship piece is Philip Spark's "Enigma Variations". It was commissioned by the Desford Colliery Band led by Howard Snell and first performed in 1986. Since then, it has been loved and performed by many bands. Philip Spark's work "Triptych" was also selected as a Section 2 assignment. Other pieces include Eric Ball's "High Peak," and even though it is a collection of pieces, it is full of remarkable works. The Besson British National Brass Band Contest] The Besson National Brass Band Contest is a historic competition that has been held since 1900, in which the British Champion competes.The current contest is divided into 8 districts: "London & Southern Counties", "Midlands", "North of England", "North West", "Scotland", "Wales", "West of England", and "Yorkshire". Each year, regional qualifying competitions are held in March in each region, and the finals are held in the fall. This is the music for the regional qualifiers, and the music for the finals will be set separately.
