GOD Amelia Fletcher is the first name that comes to mind when you hear the words "UK indie/twee pop". Her discography includes a variety of bands, but it was HEAVENLY that dominated the 90's. While almost a continuation of TALULAH GOSH from the 80's, HEAVENLY's more dynamic and powerful sound resonated with the alternative rock boom, and they remained active and enthusiastic until their breakup in 1996. In 2025, they will release a new song "PORTLAND TOWN" as HEAVENLY for the first time in 30 years! The title track is a slapstick Amelia-style punk rock performance that harkens back to their 1991 debut "Heavenly vs. Satan," as if they were enjoying straight-ahead studio practice. However, the band also shows off their mastery of the craftsmanship that was still alive in their last album, 1996's "Operation Heavenly", in key places. And the sense of putting a superbly beautiful melody on the slow tempo of "Someone Who Cares" has not diminished at all! This is a perfect revival single that combines the cutting-edge sensibility cultivated through continuous musical activities with the underlying soul. Buy it, listen to it, and be sparked.
