Description:
This is the first album exclusive to French clarinetist Pierre Jennison's Elate. Using period classical clarinets, basset clarinets and basset horns, and specially built modern clarinets, French clarinetist Pierre Jénisson performs with Concerto Cologne on the Mozart album French clarinetist Pierre Jénisson is the exclusive artist for Elato. His first album focuses on Mozart, the composer who most inspired the clarinet. At the heart of this album is the composer's famous clarinet concerto. The spiritual and symbolic scope of this concerto is immeasurable." Every time I return to this masterpiece, I get the same thrill as when I first discovered the work," said Jennison. Pierre Jénisson is one of today's leading French wind players, a versatile soloist and frequent guest with orchestras around the world, who studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His repertoire ranges from Mozart to jazz to folk music, and his active interest in new music has led to numerous collaborations with prominent contemporary composers. For this album, in collaboration with the period instrument orchestra "Concerto Cologne" and conductor Jacob Lehmann, Jennison plays period classical clarinet, two different basset clarinets and basset horns copied from Mozart-era instruments, and a clarinet made especially for this recording. Jennison plays on a period classical clarinet, two different basset clarinets and basset horns copied from Mozart's time, and a modern clarinet specially made for this recording. The program includes not only the famous Clarinet Concerto, but also an aria accompanied by clarinet from the opera "The Mercy of Emperor Tito" with mezzo-soprano Carine Dehe. In the arias from Cosi fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro, composer Bruno Fontaine arranged the arias for clarinet, and the voices of the arias are sung on his clarinet. The album concludes with "Lacrimosa" from Requiem arranged by Bruno Fontaine for clarinet, organ, and Fender Rhodes (Rhodes Piano) electric piano.
