Description:
A brilliant and imposing collection of late French Baroque works Charles de Mars (1702-1774), a late French Baroque composer, was the organist for 46 years at the Vannes Cathedral (110 meters long, 10 chapels), the largest cathedral in Brittany. He also worked outside the cathedral from time to time, and in 1735 published in Paris the collection of clavesan pieces included on this CD. The style of the music is impressive with its late Baroque splendor and thick sound, and the composer's confidence is reflected in his majestic and forceful sound. The performance is by Simone Pierini, who is actively involved in the study and performance of early keyboard music. The instrument used is a Meatke model built by Giulio Fratini in 2014 with a pitch of A=392Hz, and once again he shows his skill in introducing the work by using his sharp technique to expressively bring out the possibilities of the work while also providing commentary in the booklet (8 pages in English).
