Antonio Lauro was born in Venezuela. His father taught him music from an early age. After moving to Caracas, he began to study piano and composition in earnest. However, after discovering the music of Agustín Barrios-Mangole, who was popular and gave many concerts in Venezuela at the time, he decided to devote himself to the guitar and subsequently became an outstanding guitarist and composer. Lauro became the first Venezuelan to complete formal studies in classical guitar in 1938, and at the same time, he began a career as a popular musician, performing throughout South America with a vocal and guitar trio. Lauro was a political enthusiast and an ardent nationalist. In 1951, Lauro was imprisoned for his pro-democracy rhetoric, but he never stopped composing. While in prison, he wrote his masterpieces, the Sonata for Guitar, the Venezuelan Suite, and the Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra. In his compositions for guitar, he sought to combine Venezuelan popular music with the intricacies of traditional European forms, and the result is highly engaging and melodic music that is full of spirit and charm and captures the character of the instrument.A beautiful performance of sound by one of Italy's leading guitarists, Cristiano Pauli Capelli. With Brilliant Classics, he has recorded albums by Gangi, Tansman, Carlebaro, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and others, which have been highly acclaimed by many guitar fans.
