Description:
A Gallant Flute Masterpiece of English Chamber Music Blinded in an accident at the age of two, Stanley began playing the church organ at the age of nine and was offered a church organist position at the age of eleven, and at seventeen became the youngest person ever to receive a Bachelor of Music degree from Oxford University. He was appointed and remained there for the next 52 years until his death. Stanley was also able to devote more time to conducting and composition, and in his late 20s and early 30s he composed flute sonatas in response to the increasing demand for chamber music in London, which was a major musical metropolis throughout the Baroque and Classical periods. In his late twenties and early thirties, he also composed a masterpiece in the Gallant style.
