Melodrama, a genre combining recitation and music, flourished especially at the beginning of the 20th century; in the late 19th century, the main style of melodrama was not only the alternation of music and speech, but also the recitation of texts to an almost continuous and elaborate accompaniment. In order not to be overwhelmed by the accompaniment and to continue with declamation (a style of singing in which intonation and rhyme are important) rather than singing, the vocal parts require a special style and a high level of skill. This time, Yed Wentz and Artem Belogrov seek to discover in melodrama the dual art of fusion of words and music, to show how moving this genre is, why it was so popular, and how it is played out today.
