Forgotten British Pianists. The first release is Howard-Jones & Isaacs! APR, which has a worldwide reputation for discovering rare recordings and reissuing them in high quality, will start a "mini-series" entitled "Two Forgotten British Pianists"! The first series of reissues will feature recordings by Evelyn Howard-Jones (1877-1951) and Edward Isaacs (1881-1951), two British pianists whose names and performances are now largely forgotten, although they were both active in the early 20th century until the early 1950s. Isaacs (1881-1953). An academic by nature, Howard-Jones was also described as having a "scholarly and fastidious depth" in his interpretations. He was also known for his mastery of Bach and Brahms, and his recording of the "Mean Clavier Works" in particular shows a performance of exceptional spirituality and beauty. He is also well versed in the piano works of Dilius, with whom he had a close friendship, and the first movements of the "Five Pieces" (No. 4 has never been recorded) and "Three Preludes" dedicated to him are also included in this reissue.Of Polish-Jewish descent, Edward Isaacs (1881-1953) studied music at the Royal College of Music in Manchester with Charles Halle and Olga Neruda, a student of Clara Schumann. Regarded as one of the leading Chopin and Liszt players in England at the time, Isaacs' playing was full of brilliance and joie de vivre, and he was described as a witty and engaging storyteller. The majority of the recordings being reissued here are the first reissues of these rare performances since they were first released on 78rpm SP records. The reissue of Howard-Jones' Beethoven's "Rondo in G major" is the first time it has appeared on a test pressing, and the reissue by renowned engineer Mark Aubert-Thorn brings back to life the unknown British pianism of the first half of the 20th century.
