Description:

The latest remastering brings back to life the sublime soul of Scandinavia, Master Blomstedt has opened up the ideal world of Nielsen's performance! Herbert Blomstedt is widely known for his long career and his musical views based on "good old ideals". He has served as principal conductor and music director of such prestigious orchestras as the Staatskapelle Dresden and the San Francisco Symphony. Notably, he was the first principal conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra) from 1967 to 1977, and it was during his tenure that the highly acclaimed Nielsen recordings (not only symphonic works but also orchestral works and concertos) were made. He is highly regarded for his interpretations of works by German and Austrian composers as well as those from the Scandinavian peninsula. Blomstedt's conducting style has been described as disciplined and graceful, and he shapes the music with refined, minimal gestures, without the use of a conductor's stick. He does not use a conductor's stick, but uses a refined minimum of gestures to shape the music, because he believes that what an orchestra needs is not a "time-taker," but a dialogue with the musicians. His attitude is to always face a work with a fresh mind and keep discovering new details. His music-making is full of power to bring out elegance and clarity, and he is also highly regarded for his attitude of working with performers to build rich communication. Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) was 22 years younger than Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and about the same age as Finnish genius Jean Sibelius. He was born in a small village near Odense on the island of Funen, which is also the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, the world-renowned children's author. Although his works do not directly reflect the literature and landscape of his homeland as Sibelius did, he created music with a uniquely Danish atmosphere. His scores have a clear and strong logic, and he used the "developmental tonality" technique rather than relying on atonal techniques popular in other parts of Europe.Today, his fame is based primarily on his six symphonies, but as the other works in this complete collection show, he was a skilled composer of a wide variety of musical forms.
