An album commemorating the 150th anniversary of Ravel's birth, combining works that face each other and pay tribute to Ravel's work. Bertrand Chamayou describes the "Ravel: Fragments" album as "my own contribution to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the composer who has always been with me since my childhood. This album of solo piano music includes Ravel's own transcriptions from "La Valse" and "Daphnis et Chloe," as well as Chamayou's own arrangements of Ravel's vocal works, and a number of pieces written as homages to Ravel. Five of these tribute works are by composers such as Arthur Honegger, Joaquin Nin, Alexandre Tansman, Xavier Monsalvatche, and pianist Ricardo Vinyes, who popularized the works of Ravel, Debussy, and other major composers of the early 20th century by the composer. Three pieces are by contemporary composers Betsy Jolas, Salvatore Charino, and Frederic Durieux. When Erato released Chamayou's complete collection of Ravel's solo piano works by Chamayou, still a bestseller today, in 2016, Gramophone magazine praised it as "a revelatory performance of breathtaking beauty and unparalleled power" and said, "For lovers of French music and outstanding piano playing, this work is not to be missed." Miraval Studio, where this album was recorded, is an old castle in Provence, Chateau Miraval, which was renovated by Jacques Rouché in 1977, and where AC/DC, Sting, Pink Floyd, Sherday, Wham! and others, but it has not been used for the last 20 years. In 2021, however, Brad Pitt will partner with renowned music producer Damien Quintard to renovate and restore the legendary Miraval Studio in the summer of 2022, preserving the valuable recording equipment from the 1970s and introducing the latest analog/digital hybrid equipment designed by Pitt and Quintard. The legendary Miraval Studio was renovated and restored in the summer of 2022.
