The decision to award the prize was based on Bob Dylan's influence on contemporary music, not only for his musicianship, but also for his literary lyrics. Here is a rare live archive of this leading singer/songwriter of the American music scene from the 1980s!
Farm Aid, a music festival held in Chicago in September 1985 to raise funds to support struggling American farms and farmers, featured Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan asked Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers to support him as his backing band. The two hit it off and planned to hold concerts together, starting with a concert in Wellington, New Zealand on February 5, 1986, followed by a world tour titled "True Confessions. The July 31 concert in Tacoma, Washington was recorded and broadcast as a PBS program.While Bob Dylan had successfully completed an extensive tour with The Band in 1974, which was limited to North America, he and Tom Petty took the group on a 93-stop world tour from Oceania to North America to Europe, making it the largest and most successful Bob Dylan tour to date. It was the largest and most successful tour Bob Dylan has ever undertaken.
This album contains the complete songs performed in the order of the set list on the day of the concert, and provides a complete picture of the concert. The performance with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, who at the time were riding high with several hits in the U.S., brought out a new charm in Bob Dylan. This live album is a rare opportunity for fans to see a rare performance of Bob Dylan's career.
