Description:
This is the latest in US soul-jazz 2024! The long-awaited first full-length album, recorded live with bassist Rene Camacho (War, Poncho Sanchez), features 14 tracks full of grooves so sophisticated that it is hard to believe that this is a guitar trio. F-Spot Records is proud to present "Fresh Squeeze," the debut LP from Miami-based soul-jazz trio Fat Produce. Led by guitarist Addison Rifkind (The Soul Vacinators) and drummer Michael Duffy (The White Brines, Jungle Fire), the duo, along with world-renowned bassist Rene Camacho (Poncho Sanchez, War), have created 14 brand new original soul jazz instrumental cuts. Rifkind and Duffy first met at a gig with organist Adam Skone (Skone Cash Players), where they instantly felt a musical chemistry and the seeds of Fat Produce were born. Sharing a passion for classic soul jazz as well as funk and hip-hop, Riffkind and Duffy began to dive into the idea of a guitar trio, elevating it to new heights never before achieved. After a year of gigging and honing their craft, the two returned to their hometown of Los Angeles, California, where they joined Rene Camacho for two days of recording at F Spot HQ under the direction of producer and label owner David M. Celia, all in one room on 1/2" tape. Recorded live, the session captured the essence of the Fat Produce sound. Forced to record live without overdubs, "Fresh Squeeze" highlights the authentic tone and feel from these two special days spent breathing new life into the guitar trio format. From straight-ahead soul-jazz tunes like "Sticky Beets" and "Slick," to out-of-the-box cuts like "Son!" and the Afro-beat-inspired "Afrenetic," to the more traditional, more modern, more melodic tunes like "Cadillac Converter," " Grease on the Range, and groove-driven compositions like "818 Don't Hate," the LP brought a variety of styles and feels under the same umbrella of guitar, upright bass, and drums. With Addison Rifkind's chords and melodic style, Michael Duffy's distinctive drum tone and feel, and bassist Rene Camacho's tasteful playing standing out, Fresh Squeeze is the perfect sonic experience. From the first notes of Side A to the final hit of Side B, it is a well-rounded sound, a timeless listen, and one that will be on repeat for decades to come.
