Steely Dan is a band at the top of the American AOR scene. The band has been active since their debut in 1972, although they have broken up and reformed several times. Fagen has announced that they will continue their activities. With the death of Walter Becker in September 2017, it is extremely sad that we will not be able to see Donald Fagen & Walter Becker perform live as Steely Dan. ... After the release of their last studio album together, Everything Must Go, in 2003, they toured only in North America, and three years later, in 2006, they toured only in North America again. The concert in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 12 of the same year was recorded and broadcast as a TV/FM program on PBS (in the U.S.), and this live album uses the recordings from that broadcast.The set list for this tour did not include songs from the new album, but focused on Steely Dan songs from the 1970s, and this live album captures the entire concert, including the encores (the last song, 'Last Tango In Paris', fades out with only the band playing). The album captures the concert in its entirety, including the encore. The performance is a masterpiece, as the band performs a series of classic songs from the past with the backing band, all of whom are well versed technicians. This is the kind of performance that makes you want to listen to Steely Dan's studio works all over again, and shows you how good he is as a live band!
