The former EMI’s Klemperer SACD reissue project is underway! This 5-disc set compiles all 14 of Klemperer’s Mozart symphonies—both early and late—recorded in stereo, along with other works. Some tracks are being released on SACD for the first time worldwide. Includes new liner notes. “Klemperer SACD Reissue Series I” This marks the 20th installment of the “DEFINITION SERIES.” Four years have passed since the release of the first installment in March 2015, and the total number of titles now stands at 37. While we have been reissuing various recordings—focusing primarily on buried masterpieces from the former EMI label—the EMI catalog is still brimming with outstanding titles. Therefore, to commemorate reaching the 20th release, we have decided to begin systematically releasing a selection of Klemperer’s recordings on an irregular basis, starting with this release. In addition, these reissues will feature new liner notes by a leading authority on Klemperer’s interpretations and will include a separate “Klemperer Chronology” (included with all releases). We have compiled Mozart’s complete 14 symphonies—stereo recordings made by Klemperer for the former EMI label between 1956 and 1964—along with older and newer recordings of “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” and other works onto five discs. While six of the symphonies had previously been released on SACD, this release includes the 1956 recordings of Symphonies Nos. 38 and 39 (out of the three existing versions of Symphonies Nos. 38–40), the 1962 recording of Symphony No. 40, and Symphonies Nos. 25, 29, 31, 33, and 34, along with three orchestral works, are being released on CD for the first time worldwide. These Mozart recordings, which represent the very essence of Klemperer’s artistry, have been revived in the latest high-fidelity sound. For this reissue, we used masters digitized at 96 kHz/24-bit from the original masters in Germany and performed new mastering separately for the SACD layer and the CD layer. In doing so, we conducted thorough comparisons with previously released recordings and, in order to bring out the best in the music, strove to achieve optimal mastering that remained faithful to the original analog master tapes.
