Description:

A legendary recording from the peak of Bayreuth’s golden age in the ’60s is finally available on SA-CD for the first time! A historic performance by Böhm featuring a stellar cast of singers! Newly remastered from the original analog master tapes in Germany specifically for this release! Includes bilingual libretto and a special price. 1967 Record Academy Grand Prize DG’s 1966 recording by Karl Böhm (1894–1981)—which continues to be hailed as the ideal interpretation of *Tristan* in recording history—is now available on SA-CD. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival in 2026, the audio has been newly converted to high-resolution from the original analog master tapes in Germany specifically for this release, and mastered at the Emil Berliner Studios to deliver a completely refreshed sound quality. This true masterpiece, which has won the prestigious Record Academy Award, is now being reissued with bilingual lyrics. Böhm seems to have held this work in particularly high regard; in fact, “Tristan” was the very piece he conducted for his 1962 debut at Bayreuth, and he went on to stage it for seven consecutive seasons through 1970 (This is the highest number of productions among all the works he staged at Bayreuth. Details regarding the specific performances are described in the new introductory essay by Mr. Hirose included in this booklet.) This clearly demonstrates Böhm’s deep attachment to this work and serves as proof of its high regard among audiences. This 1966 recording captures a performance from his fourth season and was produced by DG. Among Böhm’s recordings from his ten consecutive years at Bayreuth, alongside DG’s 1971 recording of *The Flying Dutchman* and Philips’ 1966 (and 1967) recordings of *The Ring*, the fact that a stereo recording was preserved—not only in terms of sound quality but also as a record of the Bayreuth Festival—represents a historic achievement in the history of opera recordings.
