Self-produced by the band and dedicated to their hometown of New York, *To the 5 Boros* topped the *Billboard 200*, *Top Rap Albums*, *Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums*, *Top Current Albums*, *Rap Album Sales*, and *Top Album Sales* charts upon its 2004 release. The album struck a perfect balance between tracks like “Shazam!” and “Chi, Check It Out,” which skillfully incorporated pop culture references, and songs such as “Right Right Now Now,” “It Takes Time to Build,” and “An Open Letter to NYC,” which addressed serious social and political issues.
