Roy Hargrove's previously unreleased studio album is now available! In early 1998, fresh off winning a Grammy Award for "Best Latin Jazz Performance" for his debut album "Havana," Roy Hargrove went back into the studio to record his current album, "Grand Tail. This work showcases the passionate playing, superb compositional sense, and strong, distinctive sound of the band, but it has never been released to the world until now. Now, on October 18, two days after Roy's 55th birthday, Verve Records will release the album worldwide. Priorities" has been released as an advance single. Roy Hargrove was widely acclaimed for his compositions and his talent on trumpet and flugelhorn. The New York Times described him as "the most influential trumpet player of his generation. The current album, "Grande Terre," succinctly expresses Roy's talents along with his longtime collaborators, known as "Crisols" (Spanish for "crucible"). This all-star group of Cuban, American, and Guadalupean musicians formed the basis for Roy Hargrove's unparalleled approach to jazz and the various musical genres featured on this album.This unique blend of jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, soul, bop, and funk influenced later generations of jazz, hip-hop, and neo-soul musicians. Today's artists such as Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Questlove have all been influenced by Roy Hargrove's music and what he created in the studio.
