Karl Böhm, one of the greatest opera conductors of the 20th century, also excelled in Wagner's operas, frequently appearing at the Bayreuth Festival, Wagner's sacred city, and giving many masterful performances. Tristan und Isolde," a public session recording made in 1966, the golden age of the postwar Bayreuth Festival, is one of Böhm's representative Wagner recordings, along with "The Ring of the Nibelung," which was recorded the same year and the following year. The dramatic music making is fascinating. The recording won the 1967 Record Academy Grand Prize. The lyrics are not included in the box set. Universal Music
