Description:
Legend, Reinhold Friedrich! A collection of concerto works dedicated to Claudio Abbado, Friedrich Friedrich became principal conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr Symphony Orchestra) in 1983 at the age of 24 and won the first prize at the Munich International Music Competition in 1986. A legend in the German trumpet world, Reinhold Friedrich is a trusted advisor to Claudio Abbado, and since 2003 he has also been principal player of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, an all-star European orchestra. Recorded in November 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic of the new coronavirus, Friedrich's collection of trumpet works includes five works by musicians living today and composers who have passed the baton to the present and ascended to heaven. Benjamin Yusupov (1962-), a composer from Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan, has written "Listen to Our Cry," an ambitious work that attempts to integrate the liturgies of all three major monotheistic religions. The work's use of augmented second degrees and chromaticism evokes the melody of Eastern European Jewish music. One of the highlights of Hungarian master Ivan Fischer's career as a composer, the "German-Yiddish Cantata," as it is known, features the famous soprano Dorothee Meals. This sumptuous collaboration with Friedrich's trumpet is undoubtedly one of the album's greatest attractions. After Friedrich's trumpet version of Cancelli's "Night Prayer" and Hovhaness' "Aria," the latter part of the album is "Farewell" by Luca Lombardi (1945-), a native of Rome. It is a solo trumpet piece dedicated to the late maestro Claudio Abbado, with whom Friedrich shared many stages in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Tokyo M-Plus
