Description:

Ensemble Mini celebrates its 10th anniversary! In 2001, members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy and British conductor Jules Gale, who had studied under John Eliot Gardiner with the Monteverdi Chorus, formed the Ensemble Mini, an elite ensemble that has performed Mahler's Symphony No. 10 in a chamber ensemble version to great acclaim in the "Mini Mahler Project. The Ensemble Mini was formed by members of the Philharmonic Orchestra Academy and British conductor Jules Gale, who studied with John Eliot Gardiner in the Monteverdi Chorus.Following the highly acclaimed "Mahler: Symphony No. 9" (ARS38155S), Ensemble Mini's second Mahler release is a chamber ensemble version of "Mahler: Symphony No. 10," celebrating its 10th anniversary! Ensemble Mini and Jules Gale have completed a supplement to Mahler's "Symphony No. 10" and arranged a chamber ensemble version of the work, which has been performed by the Royal Northern College of Music's Artistic Director and the Director of the Oxford Festival of the Arts. Dr. Michel Castelletti is a composer-conductor from Malta with a remarkable record of achievement, including serving as artistic director of the Royal Northern College of Music, director of the Oxford Festival of the Arts, and leading the Philharmonia Orchestra's "Universes of Sound" project. Dr. Castelletti, with the full cooperation of the Vienna-based Uniwersaal Publishers (Universal Editions), will use the already published versions of Mahler's "Symphony No. 10" by Cook (3rd draft), Barshai, Carpenter, Mazzetti, and Feiler to realize a chamber ensemble version of the work, Mazzetti's version, and Führer's version of the work.He also collected various facsimiles and scores of Mahler's symphonies and undertook an exhaustive study of their orchestration, culminating in the completion of a chamber ensemble version (Castelletti version). The chamber ensemble version of Mahler's Symphony No. 10 was realized in the tradition of Schoenberg's "Private Performance Society" (1918-21) and its contemporaries, which is also the concept behind the Ensemble Mini. The unique "orchestration" and "sound" of this version are different from any other version of Mahler's "Symphony No. 10". Composition (one per part unless otherwise noted): 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, accordion, percussion (2 players), piano, harp* Dr. Michel Castelletti, Includes Japanese translation of detailed commentary by Jules Gale!
