Pietro Morlacchi (1828-1868), flute, and Antonio Torriani (1829-1911), bassoon, were woodwind instrumentalists born in 19th century Italy, a country where opera flourished. Chamber works by 19th-century Italian instrumentalists, including a duet on a theme from Rossini's "William Tell," discovered at the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, were born from the melodies of Italian opera. Recorded in June 2011, this is a graceful and brilliant performance by Carlo Tamponi and Francesco Bossone, principal players of the Orchestra of St. Cecilia in Rome. Tokyo M-Plus
