Description:
In Catalonia in the first half of the 20th century, Granados and Albeniz wrote many piano pieces incorporating folk songs, and Casado and Casals were active in the cello field. In comparison, few violin pieces were written. However, Kreisler, Szigeti, and others, fascinated by the melodies of these melancholy piano pieces and songs, have arranged them for violin, transforming them into charming melodies and virtuosic pieces that can be heard. The album also includes original works for violin. These include the violin sonata composed by the cello virtuoso Casado in memory of his brother Augustin, who passed away in 1915; "Altitud Highlands," the only violin work composed by Montpauw while he was in Paris; and "Romance" and "Three Preludes," which were published after Granados' death. Jordi Cervelló, composer of the last piece, "Prova for Violin," was born in Barcelona in 1935. Originally a violinist, a car accident interrupted his career and he devoted himself to composing. His numerous technical violin works lead the listener into the new Catalan music of the 21st century.Concertmaster Janna Gandelman of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra gives an emotionally charged performance.
