Description:
The first Chopin Festival, held in Hamburg in 2018, was a music festival that was based on the concept of performing Chopin using modern and historical pianos. This album is a recording of the second festival held the following year. The previous year, a 2015 Steinway was used as the representative of modern pianos, but in 2019, the latest model from Shigeru Kawai was performed. The historical pianos were selected to allow the audience to enjoy the contrast of tones depending on the year of production: in addition to Pleyel pianos made in 1832 and 1847, a Steinway made in 1872 and a variety of other instruments were selected. The competition among the skilled players, including Tomasz Littel, the winner of the 1st International Chopin Competition for Period Instruments held in Poland in 2018, where Shigehiko Kawaguchi won the second prize, is also a must-see.
