Goran Filipets, highly acclaimed for his interpretations of Liszt's works and noted for his improvisational performances, has taken on the challenge of Chopin's masterpieces in this ambitious album. The "Ballade," inspired by a poem by the poet Adam Mickiewicz, and the "Scherzo," Chopin's original development and expansion of a piece that originally meant "joke/comedy," were each published separately between 1835 and 1843. In this recording, Filippetz pairs the four ballades with the four scherzos, focusing on the chronological and tonal relationships of their compositions, and places a prelude before each, creating an organic flow throughout the album. Chopin himself is recorded as having performed the preludes in combination with other works, so it can be said that this program is based on historical context.
