Description:
The popular series of Liszt's complete piano works. The 65th collection includes works based on Hungarian melodies, a subject that has always been close to Liszt's heart. The Racoczi March is based on Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15, which has been arranged in many different ways, but the orchestral version is probably the best known, and the solo piano version faithful to the orchestral version is included here. The main theme is developed in A minor, the second theme in F major, and after a short dramatic development, the piece concludes with a profound coda. The album also includes a simplified version of the same piece (track 13). Although this version is shorter, it is as difficult to play as the longer version. The "Hungarian Folk Melodies" are typical of Liszt's work as a self-confessed "defender of Hungarian music," and many of them were later developed into Hungarian rhapsodies. The "Hungarian Tempo" is the melody used at the beginning of the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6, but it differs from the rhapsody in rhythm and other aspects. The "Famous Hungarian Melody" is the same melody as the second half of No. 6. It is written more easily than the rhapsody, and the end of the piece is completely rewritten.
