Ysaye (1858-1931)
Description:
Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) was a great violinist born in Belgium. In addition to his success as a performer, he produced many important works as a composer that had a profound influence on later generations. His masterpiece, the "Six Sonatas for Solo Violin," is a challenging work that was dedicated to six violinists who were close to him. This recording includes the "Unfinished Sonata" in C major, which was discovered in 2017 in Ysaÿe's scorebook known as the "Lavergne Manuscript. This piece was originally conceived as "No. 6," but Ysaye stopped composing it in the middle of the third movement, and the No. 6 as we know it today was newly rewritten. The scorebook containing this manuscript passed to his friend, violinist Philippe Newman, after Ysaÿe's death, and from Newman it was passed to a female Belgian violinist, Josette Lavergne, and for a long time its existence was unknown, until Lavergne's death in 2015, it was finally disclosed to the public when it was donated to the Bibliothèque des Conservatoires in Brussels.Listen to Valentin, a violinist who loves Ysaÿe's music, in his sincere performance.
