Zdenek Fibich (Fibich) was one of the pioneering composers of the Czech National Music School. Among his contemporaries, he is said to have inherited a particularly strong influence from German Romanticism, and many of his works, especially his orchestral works, are characterized by the use of Czech folk songs as materials, but also by the sound of their profound orchestration. This album, the fifth in the series of orchestral works, features the Symphony No. 3, composed two years before his death, as well as overtures and insertions from a Czech folk opera. The overture to the opera, "The Last Song," is a piece of music with a clear beginning and end. In the overture to the opera, one can hear Fibich's skillful approach to the Czech folk tale, which is said to be "Smetana's successor. Having performed with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra from the first to the fourth album, Štilets now brings the series to a close with the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra. Naxos Japan
