Description:
Jacques Castelade was born in Paris in 1926. His father owned a barbershop in post-World War I Paris, but this did not deter his son from developing an interest in music. He had private piano lessons before entering the Conservatoire, but most of his repertoire consisted of Romantic works by Liszt and Chopin, and he only learned Mozart and Beethoven's orchestral works in piano duets. However, his musical knowledge improved dramatically as he learned various techniques at the Conservatoire, and he also adopted a modern sensibility by studying in Messiaen's music analysis class at the end of the school year. Perhaps because of this, his works are strongly influenced by atonal, jazz, pop, and rock music, and his compositions range from easy to difficult listening. Among his best known works is "Flute on Vacation," with its pleasant neoclassical style and modern harmonies. Naxos Japan
